Why i hate cricket….
Published by miss firebrand January 26th, 2006 in Sports on Indian Television, UncategorizedWe all know how bias the media community in India is when it comes to cricket, other games are perpetually overshadowed. The best example is the ongoing ONGC National Football League (NFL) being played in different cities across India. I h’ve been watching most of the game and believe me they lack nothing. They are engaging, with smart soccer skills - good passing, good goal keeping and all that you expect to see on a good soccer game. In spite of all this, all we get to read about them is in a little article tucked in the corner of a sports page. No pictures, no elaboration. And mind you, this so called sports journos, have no problem interviewing a Sewag’s wife or aunty simply because - they are connected to someone who plays sports. *sigh*
will we ever get to see the recognition the soccer stars deserves in India? This kind of double standards makes me hate Cricket all the more!
the last time i heard, most of the rich indian soccer clubs were more busy hiring nigerian and south american soccer players :D
I hate cricket for many reasons as it is for the busy Indians who have nothing to do but to count the number of runs by balls. Thanks Cricket for keeping people occupied for whole days without a result but count and count till the wide balls that make no sense or have any direction. Also thanks for keeping people unoccupied for one whole day just for the awful ads. Above all, you may support your country. But when to our neighbouring county’s Pakistan with India, you will hear celebration everywhere as if it is making an international war. What more can I say? Imagine with your thoughts, ideas and make an action.
I think cricket is really not to blame. Its just that in hindsight when we look at indian soccer and cricket…no prizes for guessing which one s given us national moments. Cricket no doubt is one sport that brings together the whole nation together. And then from a commmercial point of view too…cricket sells like hell because its circket which has given us those exhilirating instances like the 83 workld cup win…defeating australia in australia recently….India s always been a force to reckon with in cricket rankings…while the FIFA football ranking puts india on the 108 position as far as i remember…And lets face it…Indians just dont have those physical endurance levels to compete on the international level at least at the current moment. Now thankfully we have a few of our major business houses pumping in some money in indian football. Lets hope in another 5-10 years we see some improvemnt in the fortune of indian soccer scene…
i hate cricket because as being a nepali is very boring of hearing indians win.ihate indians and cricket too
ya.This is right.Cricket is very dangerous for INDIA.India is not na rech country at all,But we spend lots of money in this foolish game .Ofcourse we will be a great country if we spend that amount in indian development.Players earn lots of money and facilities also that is more than there work.
Take the current predicament of this World Cup as an example. The major stake-holders in the tournament - the television channels and major sponsors - risk losing millions, either in cash or kind, if India go out in the first round. They are not the number one team in the world by a mile. Not even number two. They are ranked sixth in the ICC team ratings and, while that might not always be the best indicator of a team’s worth, they have not won a competition of note outside the subcontinent since 1985. Yet the fate of the World Cup rides on them. It’s a disaster waiting to happen.
The reason for this is not hard to comprehend. Cricket has acquired a dangerous obsession with money, to the extent where it is not a question of a game needing the money to survive or grow but making as much as possible at any cost. Players have been ground to dust and cricket, the one-day variety in particular, has been divested of any meaning and consequence. It would seem that the administrators have learnt very little from the match-fixing scandal, which was as much a result of greed as of a surfeit of matches that meant little to the players.
Meanwhile, the Indian administrators have managed to market a massive captive television audience to acquire financial muscle that relies little on the capabilities of the national team. As a result the cricket economy has gone ahead of the game, which is struggling to catch up.
The Cricket economy relies more on projection and hype than reality. SetMax, the entertainment channel owned by Sony, paid nearly 40 % of the total cost of the ICC rights in the hope of recouping it from advertisers. Luckily for them, India made it to the final of the last World Cup and one Champions Trophy. But that was clearly not enough and Sony didn’t even bother to bid for the next set of rights, which have been won by ESPN-Star for US $1.1 billion
The reality is that India reaching the World Cup final would be an overachievement. Australia and South Africa possess superior teams, New Zealand have more balance and depth and Sri Lanka are the most improved team in world cricket. India have proven, but ageing, batsmen, a bowling attack that’s susceptible to pressure and poor fielders. To be a fan is to dream. But to many Indian fans the dream is the reality
Yes, India not making past the first round would be a huge setback. But it would be accorded the status of a national calamity. It will be discussed in Parliament. Television channels will conduct inquests. Effigies will be burnt, cricketers’ homes will be attacked, and these will be gleefully publicised. A couple of months ago, Greg Chappell was slapped on the back by a man in Bhubaneswar seeking his fifteen seconds of fame. He was obliged. It could get worse. Someone could get killed.
Perhaps, spirit of the game called cricket has already been killed.
I feel sad when I watch other countries like Ivory cost and small african countries play at the world cup……If the cricketers keep flopping every time…The hope for a football team will grow…..Thats the only way soccer make inroads big time in our country…..
all india games are stupid, why don’t they play reel sports
