Viewer’s delights!! Ten sports revenue -Reality bites!!

The recent Indo pack matches being telecast on Ten-sports as well as DD have affected Ten-Sports on the expected revenue during the match innings-break. DD considers it a birthright to take feeds from other international channels for the match telecasts and yet, manage to get in its own shows like fourth umpire (whose standard and quality would be better not discussed) in between the lunch breaks.

This in layman’s terms is ‘exploitation’. DD was rightly reprimanded by the Supreme Court for using the innings break to present its own shows whereas the match – feed was coming live courtesy Ten Sports.

The whole controversy started with the word “uninterrupted”, which according to DD was uninterrupted telecast of just the “cricket match”. Ten Sports definitely did not find it amusing, and rightly so took DD to the court. Finally, the Supreme Court has ordered Prasar Bharti or the Doordarshan not to air its shows in between the innings breaks anymore.

Like a typical Indian government entity, DD once again proves that having a tag of the “Indian government” not just gives u the right to make or break a law, but become a law itself. We hope someday, we would not tune in to DD only for the live cricket matches or national events like speeches or parades, but also for some real Entertainment as well.
