CNN-IBN: Censorship sucks
Published by Abhishek April 10th, 2006 in UncategorizedI have mentioned this earlier on when they blocked my comments from appearing on Rajdeep’s website.
Now it seems that they are turning on the heat to another blog which publishes his “musings” to his staffers. I am linking on to it because it raises very valid issues of hypocrisy. None of the mails related to Business Plans/ strategy has been leaked. In no way, the mails published online have had any bearing on the CNN-IBN’s fortunes.
It’s a sick organisation which cannot tolerate any criticism. Indeed, it’s a shame. I would only denounce any association with them. A robust organisation would seek to take the criticism head on and work on it. As long as it’s valid and constructive. We as consumers have full right to know as to how it seeks to transact it’s business.

The author’s write:
We’ve all seen the way the powers react when a television channel or a newspaper splashes a story culled from the contents of an astonishingly confidential or implicating document the next day….. So why wouldn’t Mr Sardesai hate it, even though these e-mails are not nearly as significant, earth shattering or grave! Us putting those emails here isn’t even journalism, but the principle is the same. It’s information. It’s a principle. We broke it. And the reaction is precisely what we expected.
Further they write in:
There’s a larger point being missed here. It’s about being the experiment that he doesn’t enjoy, and that’s fair — we really do understand
Well, I believe that this is one BIG reason why I wouldn’t deal with them now for times to come. If they believe in frigging censorship, so be it. It’s throttling fair content. Either don’t have dirty laundry that can be hung on to dry or brazen it out. As simple as that.
